The Life of Christ
The following is the beginning of a Bible Study into the most exciting event that has happened in the past 2000 years Namely the Full filament of the promise of the Messiah He\'s birth, Ministry, Death and Resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. Before starting the bible study I take it as read that you dear reader have read the four Gospels and have a basic understanding of the wonderful Gospel I do not view the Gospel narrative as a story as in a children\'s story or in the sense of an adult novel But as the word of GOD.
Most students of the Bible for whatever reason prefer a certain version or translation of the Bible some times this comes about because it\'s the version that is used in there local church or it\'s the one a Christian friend has recommended. I personally use the King James Version however I also use other translations as well. But my main stay is of course the King James Version.
In this study of the Gospel we will be taking an over view and then taking a deeper look. You might have already noticed the way in which I have referred to the Gospels as Gospel singular however of course there are four Gospels Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. And yet you might agree with me that perhaps there is some truth in the idea that some how all four Gospels are written in such a way that they complement each other.
We are limited in our study of the life of Christ to four books written in Greek. Which are called the Gospels. These give us four biographies of Jesus Christ. Each one gives the bible student a different aspect and picture of the life and ministry of Jesus. I strongly believe that these four Gospels were written under the direct inspiration of the Holy Ghost.
The word Gospel comes from the Anglo-Saxon God-Spell or God Story from which we get Good-story, or good tidings.
The first three Gospels, Matthew, Mark, and Luke are called Synoptic Gospels because these give a record of the same or parallel accounts of the life and work of Jesus Christ. John is completely different. The synoptic gospels emphasize the works of Jesus. While the fourth, Gospel emphasizes the words of Jesus. Each of the four Gospel writers presents a different aspect of the Messiah thus:
Matthew-Christ the King-Behold the King Zechariah 9:9
Mark- Christ the servant-Behold my servant Isaiah 42:1.
Luke-Christ the man- behold the man Zechariah 6:12
John-Christ the son of God-Behold your God Isaiah 40:9
The purpose of this Course of Bible studies is to take all four of the Gospels and to study the Gospel events in Chronological order. This will help the Bible student to see and understand the wider picture. The theme of supreme value is not the Gospels themselves, as documents, but the revelation which they record and communicate. No study of the gospels is fruitful which does not confront the student with The Lord Jesus Christ and His claims upon us all. In other words the end of bible study is not academic but practical.
Life of Christ II
While it is not possible to place in chronological sequence all the contents of the Gospels, It is possible to get a broad outline of Jesus Life and ministry. And it\'s most important for the Bible student to be able to do so. This may be thought of as nine main divisions:
The Life and Work of The Lord Jesus Christ
The Thirty years of Preparation | I
The opening events of the Ministry | II
The Early Judaean ministry | T H E M I N I S T R Y | III
The Samaritan ministry | IV
The Galilean Ministry | V
First period | G A L I L E N | ||
Second period | |||
Third period | |||
The late Judaean ministry | VI
The Peraean ministry | VII
The Closing events of the ministry | VIII
The Forty days of confirmation | XI |
The above diagram will be prove to be invaluable to the bible student divisions I and IX answer to one another also II and VIII and between these is The Lord Jesus Christ\'s ministry in the three main provinces of Palestine, Judea, Samaria, and Galilee. The Galilean ministry is central and it is in three periods of which the central or second one is the longest and fullest of any of the ministry periods as recorded in the four Gospels.
The early Judean and Samaritan ministers are recorded only in John\'s gospel chapter 2 verse 13-14 and 42. and the fullest account of the Peraean ministry is found in Luke\'s gospel chapter 13 verse 22 -19:28.
Most bible scholars today believe that the Lord\'s ministry lasted for three to three and a half years. From the autumn of A.D. 26 to the spring of A.D. 30 if this is correct then the approximate time periods would be.
Division II | 3 months |
Division III | 8 months |
Division IV | A few days |
Division V | First period 5 months Second period 12 months Third period 6 months |
Division VI | 3 months |
Division VII | 3 months |
Division VIII | 1 week |
